FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EXTENDS NIM-SIM VERIFICATION TO JULY 26 The extension of deadline for NIN-SIM data verification to July 26 this year has been approved by the Federal Government. A statement signed jointly by the spokespersons of the concerned agencies; Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Nigeria Identity Management Commission (NIMC) informed that at least 57-3million Nigerians have enrolled for the NIN, with an average of three to four SIMs per NIN. According to the above agencies, the decision to extend the deadline was made after a request by stakeholders, on the need to consolidate the enrolment of NIN-SIM verification process following the rapid increase in the number of enrolment systems across the country. The agencies in the Statement, further noted that as at June 28, a total of 5,410 enrolment systems have been made available nationwide to significantly ease the process and the subsequent linkage of NIN to SIM. The Statement also informed that this is against only about 800 of such enrolment systems as at December 2020.

PROVIDENCE HOTEL SET TO BE THE BEST IN NIGERIA Providence hotel, determined to be the best in the industry, is set to transform hospitality to a next level of greater excellence in the country. Financial Controller, Providence hotel, Mr. Stephen Olabanji Oyeleye, in a chat with Crystal Springs Magazine in his office in Lagos, said the hotel is the in-thing in Lagos currently, explaining that services are rendered with best practice. He said the hotel which is managed by Mantis, offers out-of-this-world hospitality, providing home-away-from–home comfort; with cheaper rates and flexible services. Reacting to a question on how the hotel survived the Covid-19 pandemic lock down in Nigeria in the year 2020, he said indeed the entire hospitality Industry was hard hit and as good as dead at the peak of the period. According to him, “no one patronized hotels during the months of June, July and August last year as people were not allowed to gather together by reason of the pandemic”; saying, “hotel business practically died in the country”. However, he said things picked up in September and by December, “we started recording high sales and this was largely due to the fact that many people resorted to have their vacation in hotels instead of travelling for holiday outside the country because of the pandemic”. He added that hotel business has nevertheless, stabilized to a great extent.

Why Some People are Hesitant to Take Covid-19 Vaccines. With reports that three Congress Members in the United States, who have been vaccinated with doses of covid-19 vaccines have tested positive for the virus; doubts now seem to trail the much awaited vaccines which were hitherto welcomed with enthusiasm. However, experts say cases like these are not surprising and do not indicate that there was something wrong with the vaccines or how they were administered. They say vaccines don’t work instantly. It takes a few weeks for the body to build up immunity after receiving a dose. And the vaccines now on use in the united states, from Pfizer BionTeach and Moderna, both required a second shot a few weeks after the first to reach full effectiveness. They also explained that the vaccines does not work retroactively, noting, “you can already be affected and not know it, even if you recently tested negative, as the infection can continue to develop after you get the shot but before its protection fully takes hold, and then shows up in a positive test result”. Experts emphasize that the vaccines prevent illness, but maybe not infection. They note that Covid-19 vaccines are being authorized based on how well they keep you from getting sick, needing hospitalization and dying. Scientists don’t know yet how effective the vaccines are at preventing the corona virus from infecting you and from passing it on to others; maintaining that it is why vaccinated people should keep wearing masks and maintain social distancing. They said even the best vaccines are not perfect. The efficacy rates for Pfizer-Bion Ntech and Moderna vaccines are extremely high, but they are not 100 percent. According to DH Herald, vaccines are proven to reduce deaths and help end pandemic. However currently available vaccines are highly effective against symptomatic illness. It takes about two weeks after the second dose to offer that high degree of protection, according to infections disease experts. However, the historic speed by which the corona virus vaccines have been developed, has made some people hesitant to take them.
