Why Some People are Hesitant to Take Covid-19 Vaccines. With reports that three Congress Members in the United States, who have been vaccinated with doses of covid-19 vaccines have tested positive for the virus; doubts now seem to trail the much awaited vaccines which were hitherto welcomed with enthusiasm. However, experts say cases like these are not surprising and do not indicate that there was something wrong with the vaccines or how they were administered. They say vaccines don’t work instantly. It takes a few weeks for the body to build up immunity after receiving a dose. And the vaccines now on use in the united states, from Pfizer BionTeach and Moderna, both required a second shot a few weeks after the first to reach full effectiveness. They also explained that the vaccines does not work retroactively, noting, “you can already be affected and not know it, even if you recently tested negative, as the infection can continue to develop after you get the shot but before its protection fully takes hold, and then shows up in a positive test result”. Experts emphasize that the vaccines prevent illness, but maybe not infection. They note that Covid-19 vaccines are being authorized based on how well they keep you from getting sick, needing hospitalization and dying. Scientists don’t know yet how effective the vaccines are at preventing the corona virus from infecting you and from passing it on to others; maintaining that it is why vaccinated people should keep wearing masks and maintain social distancing. They said even the best vaccines are not perfect. The efficacy rates for Pfizer-Bion Ntech and Moderna vaccines are extremely high, but they are not 100 percent. According to DH Herald,vaccines are proven to reduce deaths and help end pandemic. However currently available vaccines are highly effective against symptomatic illness. It takes about two weeks after the second dose to offer that high degree of protection, according to infections disease experts. However, the historic speed by which the corona virus vaccines have been developed, has made some people hesitant to take them. April 19, 2021
Stallion’s Rechargeable Car FIRST ELECTRIC CAR IN NIGERIA By Tony Okey Hyundai Kona Electric Vehicle is a product of Stallion Group and its subsidiary Hyundai Nigeria. It is Nigeria’s first locally-assembled electric vehicle manufactured by Stallion Griup to be introduced on the automobile market. It was officially unveiled in Abuja recently in an elaborate event attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, who commended the initiative in the country; describing it as a noble idea. Analyzing the features of the vehicle, Chief Executive Director of Stallion Group, Mr. Anant Badjatya, said the vehicle comes with zero emission, and can be charged both at home and at work place. He promised to make it affordable and accessible for Nigerians adding that the world is fast embracing EVS as they want to get away from the diesel and petrol engines. The car will be driven around at no fuel cost after being fully charged at home or office. April 19, 2021
Oxford Extends Vaccine Study to Children Oxford University Launches Children COVID-19 Vaccine Study Oxford University has concluded plans to launch Covid-19 vaccine study that will include children as young as six years old. The study which is the first to be extended to children will commence in partnership with three sites; London, Southampton and Bistol. According to HD Herald, Oxford in a press release says it will launch the first study to learn how children and young adults between ages six and 17 respond to the ChAdoxi nCov-19 Corona virus vaccine. “Previous trials of the vaccine have shown that it is safe, but this phase two trial, funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) and Astra Zeneca will show if kids have a good immune response to the shot.” Oxford in the press release further said,”300 volunteers will be enrolled in the study, even as 240 of them will receive the ChAdOxl nCoV-19 vaccine and the remainder, a control meningitis vaccine; which has been shown to be safe in children but is expected to produce similar reactions, such as a sore arm”. Oxford said, “while most children are relatively unaffected by Coronavirus and are unlikely to become unwell with the infection, it is important to establish the safety and immune response to the vaccine in children and young people as some children may benefit from vaccination, says Andrew Pollard, a professor of Pediatric Infection and Immunity, who is also the Chief Investigator on the Oxford Vaccine trial.
